Capturing Love Across Cultures: A Beautiful Wedding at York Register Office and St. Mary’s Abbey
As a professional African photographer based in Leeds, UK, I’ve had the privilege of documenting love stories from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Whether it’s a vibrant Nigerian wedding, a classic British ceremony, or a fusion of both, my lens is always ready to capture the unique energy and emotion of the day. So when I had the opportunity to document the intimate and charming wedding of this wonderful couple at York Register Office ( located at 56 Bootham, York YO30 7DA), I was genuinely excited.
The day began with a gentle buzz of excitement. The couple arrived, glowing with joy. The bride looked effortlessly elegant in her pale green ensemble, holding a bouquet of fresh whites and lush greens. The groom, dressed in a deep brown textured suit with a sage green tie and pocket square, couldn’t stop smiling. Surrounded by a small circle of their closest friends and family, the atmosphere was warm, heartfelt, and deeply personal, a true celebration of love in its purest form.

From the very first click of the shutter, I could tell this would be a special one. There’s something magical about intimate weddings like this, the unfiltered emotions, the close-knit connections, the unspoken love in every glance.
After the beautiful vows were exchanged, confetti filled the air as the couple exited the registry, hand in hand, to cheers and laughter. Capturing the candid reactions of family members, the joyful grins, the tearful eyes, was an absolute joy. These are the moments that last a lifetime.
One of my favourite parts of the day was the group photo session. Everyone was in high spirits, making the shoot fun and light-hearted. It’s in these moments that you see real personality shine through, and I had so much fun capturing all of it!
We then headed over to the breathtaking ruins of St. Mary’s Abbey, nestled in York Museum Gardens, for a series of portrait shots. The Abbey, with its timeless arches and serene grounds, served as a stunning backdrop. The couple absolutely owned their session, their chemistry was natural, their poses effortlessly graceful, and they trusted me completely to guide them through the shoot. As a photographer, that kind of collaboration is a dream!
By the end of the session, I couldn’t stop smiling as I reviewed the images. The lighting, the location, the expressions, everything came together beautifully. It was the kind of shoot that reminded me why I love what I do.
